The ESP32-WROOM-32 is a powerful, generic Wi-Fi + Bluetooth + BLE MCU module from Espressif Systems targeting a wide variety of applications from low-power sensor networks to demanding tasks such as voice encoding and audio streaming. At its core is the ESP32-D0WDQ6 chip featuring a dual-core Xtensa LX6 processor adjustable from 80MHz to 240MHz with 448KB ROM and 520KB SRAM. The module integrates 4MB SPI flash and a 40MHz crystal oscillator. Wi-Fi supports 802.11 b/g/n up to 150Mbps with 20.5dBm output power, while Bluetooth 4.2 supports BR/EDR and BLE with Class-1/2/3 transmitters. The rich peripheral set includes capacitive touch sensors, SD card host, Ethernet MAC, high-speed SPI, UART, I2S, I2C, and motor control PWM.

The ESP32-WROOM-32 integrates a dual-core Xtensa LX6 processor where each core can be independently controlled and clocked. The Wi-Fi subsystem handles 802.11 b/g/n MAC and baseband processing with a dedicated RF chain operating in the 2.4GHz band. The Bluetooth subsystem supports both classic BR/EDR and BLE with hardware link layer controllers. The GPIO matrix allows flexible peripheral-to-pin mapping. Power management includes multiple sleep modes: active, light sleep, and deep sleep (less than 5uA). The RTC subsystem can operate during deep sleep, enabling wake-up from GPIO, timer, or touch events. Hardware cryptographic accelerators support AES, RSA, ECC, and SHA for secure communication.
