The UCD9081RHBR from Texas Instruments is an 8-channel power supply sequencer and monitor that controls the enable sequence of up to eight independent voltage rails. The device operates from a 3.3V supply and provides 3.2 mV resolution voltage monitoring via an integrated ADC. Sequencing can be configured based on timeline delays (in ms), parent rail achieving regulation, or parent rail reaching a defined threshold. Each rail has independent undervoltage and overvoltage thresholds with configurable regulation expiration times. The flexible alarm processing supports ignore, log only, retry n times, retry continuously, and system re-sequence responses. Error conditions are logged with timestamps in both volatile SRAM (8-deep FIFO) and non-volatile Flash (8-deep) for post-failure analysis. Four configurable digital outputs support power-on-reset and other system functions. The I2C slave interface at 100 kHz allows a host microcontroller to configure and monitor the device. A Windows GUI is available for configuration.

The UCD9081RHBR uses a state-machine-based sequencing engine that controls eight enable outputs (EN1-EN8) based on user-configured rules stored in on-chip Flash. During power-up, the sequencer follows the configured timeline: each rail’s enable is asserted at the programmed delay time after the previous rail achieves regulation. The integrated ADC continuously samples each rail voltage at 3.2 mV resolution and compares it against the configured under/overvoltage thresholds. If a rail fails to achieve regulation within the expiration time, or if a sustained fault is detected after regulation, the configured alarm response is executed. Alarm responses range from simple error logging to full system re-sequence. The retry mechanism disables and re-enables the faulty rail up to n times, with configurable minimum time between retries (MTFR). The non-volatile Flash error log records the fault type, timestamp (from device reset), rail number, and rail voltage at the time of fault. The 100 kHz I2C interface supports clock stretching for reliable communication.
