The IS25LP016D-JNLE-TR from ISSI is a 16Mbit (2MB) SPI NOR Flash memory device operating at 3V (2.3V to 3.6V), designed for code and data storage in cost-sensitive embedded applications. The LP designation indicates the 3V voltage family, distinguishing it from the 1.8V WP series. Despite its compact density, the device supports the full range of ISSI SPI interfaces including Standard SPI, Dual I/O, Quad I/O, QPI, and DTR modes, achieving up to 532 Mbps equivalent throughput in QPI mode at 133MHz. The JNLE package code specifies the 8-contact SOIC-8 (150mil / 3.9mm width) package, providing a widely available and cost-effective package choice. The -TR suffix indicates tape and reel packaging with 3000 units per reel for automated SMT production. The device features uniform 4KB, 32KB, and 64KB sector/block erase, program/erase suspend and resume, and AutoBoot for automatic data output after power-on. Security features include 4×256-byte OTP areas, a 128-bit unique device ID, and power supply lock protection. The extended temperature range of -40C to +105C makes it suitable for automotive and industrial environments.

The IS25LP016D-JNLE-TR operates through a 4-wire serial peripheral interface (CS#, SCK, SI/IO0, SO/IO1, with WP#/IO2 and HOLD#/IO3 for multi-I/O modes). In Standard SPI mode, the host sends an 8-bit command followed by a 24-bit address on SI, and data is returned on SO. In Quad I/O mode, all four I/O pins transfer both addresses and data, quadrupling bandwidth. QPI mode uses 4-bit instruction encoding to reduce the command phase to just 2 clock cycles. DTR transfers data on both clock edges for double the per-pin data rate. The memory array is organized as 4KB uniform sectors, with 32KB and 64KB block erase options for efficient bulk operations. Programming loads 1 to 256 bytes into a page buffer before the internal state machine writes to the flash cells. Program/erase suspend allows interrupting a long erase operation to perform a read from a different sector, enabling real-time response in embedded systems. The AutoBoot feature automatically outputs a configured data block after power-on, reducing boot time by eliminating the command overhead. The HOLD# pin pauses serial communication without deselecting the device, useful for sharing the SPI bus with multiple devices.
