The UCC28910 employs primary-side regulation by sensing the output voltage through the auxiliary winding during the MOSFET off-time. When the internal MOSFET turns off, the secondary winding voltage is reflected to the auxiliary winding as VAUX = VOUT x (NAUX/NS). The device samples this voltage at the knee point (when the secondary current reaches zero) to determine the output voltage accurately. For constant current regulation, the device monitors the primary-side peak current and the secondary conduction time to calculate the average output current. Valley switching is achieved by monitoring the drain voltage ringing and turning on the MOSFET at the voltage minimum. The internal controller uses a variable frequency and on-time architecture that naturally transitions between discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) at heavy load and reduced frequency at light load for efficiency.
