The TPS62802YKAR is an ultra-low quiescent current step-down converter from Texas Instruments designed for battery-powered and space-constrained applications. Operating from a 1.75V to 5.5V input, it delivers up to 1A output current with a typical quiescent current of just 2.3μA. The innovative R2D (Resistor-to-Digital) converter allows the selection of 16 internally set output voltages (1.8V to 3.3V) by connecting a single external resistor to the VSEL/MODE pin, eliminating the need for a traditional resistor divider and improving output voltage accuracy to 1%. The 4MHz switching frequency enables the use of tiny 0.47μH inductors and small capacitors, achieving a total solution size of less than 5mm². The DCS-Control topology provides seamless transition between Power Save Mode and Forced PWM Mode.

The TPS62802 uses TI’s DCS-Control topology with an integrated R2D (Resistor-to-Digital) converter for output voltage programming. The R2D converter reads the resistance value connected to the VSEL/MODE pin and selects one of 16 pre-programmed output voltages from an internal lookup table. This approach provides better accuracy than a traditional external resistor divider. The VSEL/MODE pin serves dual purposes: during startup, it determines the output voltage via the connected resistor; after startup, pulling the pin high forces PWM mode for lowest output ripple. In Power Save Mode at light loads, the device operates in PFM mode with 2.3μA quiescent current, generating single switching pulses followed by sleep periods. The output discharge function ensures a defined output voltage down-ramp when the device is disabled.
