The TPS62175DQCR is a Texas Instruments 28V 500mA synchronous step-down converter in a 10-pin WSON (3x2mm) package, using DCS-Control (Direct Control with Seamless transition) topology. The 4.75V to 28V input range supports 12V and 24V industrial bus rails and multi-cell Li-Ion battery packs. The DCS-Control topology provides fast transient response with no external compensation, using a constant on-time with adaptive off-time algorithm that seamlessly transitions between PWM and power-save modes. The 4.8uA quiescent current in sleep mode is among the lowest for 28V buck converters, making the TPS62175 ideal for always-on housekeeping supplies that must minimize standby power. The 100% duty cycle mode allows the output to follow the input when VIN drops near VOUT, maximizing dropout performance. The power-good output provides a reset signal for microcontroller power sequencing. Active output discharge pulls the output down when the converter is disabled, ensuring controlled shutdown. The 1MHz switching frequency enables small inductor and capacitor values for compact solution size. Packaged in 10-pin WSON rated for -40C to +85C.

The TPS62175 uses DCS-Control topology, a TI proprietary constant on-time control scheme with a virtual inductor current emulator. The on-time is inversely proportional to VIN to maintain approximately constant switching frequency (1MHz). When the output voltage drops below the regulation threshold, the high-side MOSFET turns on for a fixed on-time, ramping up the inductor current. The off-time is adaptively controlled by the error amplifier output, which emulates the inductor current ripple. This emulated ripple provides the PWM ramp without requiring output voltage ripple, allowing the use of very low-ESR ceramic output capacitors. At light loads, the device enters power-save mode (PSM) where switching pulses are issued only when needed, reducing effective switching frequency and minimizing switching losses. In sleep mode (very light load), the IQ drops to 4.8uA by shutting down most internal bias circuits. The 100% duty cycle mode turns the high-side MOSFET on continuously when VIN approaches VOUT, eliminating switching losses and dropout. The power-good comparator monitors the FB pin and pulls PG low when the output is below 90% of the target.
