The TPS61169DCKR is a high-efficiency boost converter designed for driving white LED strings from single-cell Li-Ion or 5V supplies. With an input range of 2.7V to 5.5V and output capability up to 38V, it can drive multiple series-connected LEDs. The 1.2MHz switching frequency minimizes external component size. The integrated power MOSFET simplifies design and reduces component count. PWM dimming is achieved through the control pin, and comprehensive protection features include over-voltage, LED open-circuit, short-circuit, and thermal shutdown.

The TPS61169DCKR uses a current-mode boost converter topology to step up the input voltage to the level required by the LED string. The internal N-channel MOSFET switches at 1.2MHz, storing energy in the external inductor during the on-time and transferring it to the output during the off-time. Current-mode control provides fast transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. The LED current is set by an external current-sense resistor. PWM dimming is implemented by modulating the control pin. Over-voltage protection activates at 42V to prevent damage from open-circuit conditions.
