The TPS51125RGER is a dual-channel synchronous step-down controller from Texas Instruments designed for notebook PC system power. Each channel supports up to 5A output current from a 5V to 28V input, with adjustable output voltage from 0.75V to 5.5V. The D-CAP mode control provides fast transient response without external compensation components, simplifying design. An internal 5V LDO supplies gate drive voltage for the external MOSFETs. Protection features include overcurrent with hiccup mode, undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown. Power good outputs per channel enable power sequencing.

The TPS51125RGER uses D-CAP (Direct Control with Adaptive on-time) mode control, which is a constant on-time architecture with input voltage feed-forward. The on-time is adjusted based on the input voltage to maintain approximately constant switching frequency. Each channel operates independently with its own feedback loop. The internal 5V LDO provides the gate drive voltage for the external N-channel MOSFETs in the synchronous buck power stage. The adaptive on-time controller compares the output voltage to the reference and triggers a new on-time when the output falls below the threshold, providing inherently stable operation without compensation components. Overcurrent protection monitors the low-side MOSFET voltage drop during the off-time.
