The Texas Instruments TPS1H100AQPWPRQ1 is an AEC-Q100 qualified 40V single-channel high-side power switch designed for automotive and industrial load-driving applications. The device integrates a 400 mOhm N-channel MOSFET with comprehensive protection and diagnostic features in a single chip, replacing discrete MOSFET plus gate driver plus sense resistor solutions. The 1A continuous output current rating with 40V maximum input voltage supports driving LEDs, relays, solenoids, and resistive loads in automotive body electronics and industrial systems. The integrated current sense output provides a proportional analog voltage (5 mA/A typical) that enables real-time load current monitoring without an external sense resistor—a critical feature for fault detection and predictive maintenance. Protection features include overcurrent protection (OCP) with auto-retry, thermal shutdown with auto-retry, reverse battery protection, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and load dump protection to 40V. The open-load detection (OL) in off-state and output short-to-battery (STB) diagnostic allow the system to detect wiring faults before they cause damage. The device is fully specified from -40C to +150C junction temperature, meeting the demands of under-hood automotive applications.

The TPS1H100A-Q1 operates as a high-side switch, connecting the load between the output (OUT) pin and ground. The internal N-channel MOSFET is driven by a charge-pump gate driver that generates the gate voltage above the supply rail, enabling the use of an N-channel FET (lower RDS-ON than P-channel) as a high-side element. The input (IN) pin controls the switch on/off state with logic-level thresholds compatible with 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers. When the switch is on, current flows from VIN through the MOSFET to the load. The internal current sense amplifier measures the load current by sensing the MOSFET drain current and outputs a proportional current (5 mA/A) on the SNS pin, which is converted to a voltage by an external resistor. When a fault condition is detected (overcurrent, thermal shutdown, or undervoltage), the device turns off the MOSFET and reports the fault on the diagnostic (FAULT) pin. After a programmable retry time, the device automatically attempts to turn on again. The open-load detection works by injecting a small current into the output when the switch is off and measuring the resulting voltage—if the voltage is below the threshold, an open-load condition is indicated. Reverse battery protection is implemented by maintaining the MOSFET in the off-state when VIN is negative relative to ground.
