The TLV75533PDBVR from Texas Instruments is a 500mA, low-quiescent-current, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator with a fixed 3.3V output in a SOT-23-5 package. The device features a 200mV typical dropout voltage at 500mA load, enabling efficient regulation from a 3.6V lithium cell or 3.3V rail with minimal headroom. The 46dB PSRR at 100kHz effectively rejects switching power supply ripple, making it ideal for post-regulation of DC-DC converters feeding noise-sensitive RF and analog circuits. The 35uA typical quiescent current minimizes battery drain in always-on applications. The LDO requires only a 1uF ceramic output capacitor for stability, simplifying PCB layout and reducing BOM cost. An active output discharge feature ensures controlled discharge of the output capacitor when the regulator is disabled, preventing residual voltage that could cause malfunction during power cycling. The enable pin supports toggling up to 10kHz for power sequencing or load switching applications. The device operates over the -40C to +125C junction temperature range and includes thermal shutdown and overcurrent protection.

The TLV75533PDBVR uses a PMOS pass transistor to regulate the output voltage. (1) Regulation: A voltage divider at the output (internal for fixed-voltage versions) provides feedback to the error amplifier. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage to an internal 0.6V reference and drives the PMOS gate to maintain the output at 3.3V. When the output drops below 3.3V, the error amplifier increases the gate drive, reducing the PMOS on-resistance and increasing output current. (2) Dropout: The PMOS pass element requires only a small VGS to maintain regulation, resulting in the 200mV typical dropout voltage. Below the minimum input voltage (VOUT + VDO), the PMOS is fully enhanced and the output follows the input minus the IR drop. (3) PSRR: The high open-loop gain of the error amplifier provides 46dB of power supply rejection at 100kHz, attenuating input ripple before it reaches the output. At higher frequencies, the PSRR decreases as the loop gain rolls off. (4) Active Discharge: When the enable pin is driven low, an internal pull-down resistor (approximately 250 ohm) is connected across the output, discharging the output capacitor in a controlled manner. This prevents the output from floating at an indeterminate voltage.
