The TLV71333PDBVR from Texas Instruments is a low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator providing a fixed 3.3V output at up to 300mA. It features an ultra-low quiescent current of only 25uA, making it ideal for battery-powered and always-on applications. The device operates with input voltages from 1.4V to 5.5V and achieves a low dropout voltage of 150mV at full 300mA load. High power-supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 60dB at 1kHz ensures clean output voltage even from noisy input sources. The TLV713P is stable with just a 1uF ceramic output capacitor, minimizing board space. Built-in protection features include current limit, thermal shutdown, and an active output discharge function. The tiny SOT-23-5 package (2.9 x 1.6 x 1.1mm) is ideal for space-constrained designs.

The TLV71333PDBVR operates as a series-pass linear regulator with three key subsystems: (1) Bandgap reference – A precision bandgap voltage reference generates a stable 1.2V reference that is amplified and divided to produce the fixed 3.3V output. The reference is trimmed during manufacturing for tight initial accuracy. (2) Error amplifier and pass element – A P-channel MOSFET pass transistor is controlled by a high-gain error amplifier that compares a fraction of the output voltage with the internal reference. When the output drops below the target, the amplifier drives the PMOS gate lower, increasing current flow and restoring the output voltage. The P-channel architecture allows very low dropout since the gate can be driven to near ground. (3) Protection circuits – Current limiting protects against output shorts by sensing the pass element current. Thermal shutdown disables the output when junction temperature exceeds approximately 160C. An active discharge resistor on the output quickly discharges output capacitors when the regulator is disabled.
