The TLP2710 is a high-speed logic-output optocoupler from Toshiba in an SO6L surface-mount package (3.84 x 10 x 2.1 mm), providing 5000 Vrms isolation voltage and 25 kV per microsecond common-mode transient immunity (CMTI). It features a 5 Mbps data rate with totem-pole (buffer logic) output, 250 ns maximum propagation delay, and ultra-low 0.3 mA supply current. The device operates from 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage over the -40 C to +125 C temperature range, with a threshold input current of only 1.0 mA maximum for direct microcontroller drive. Safety approvals include UL 1577, cUL, and VDE EN 60747-5-5 (enhanced insulation class with D4 option).

The TLP2710 combines a GaAs infrared LED on the input side with an integrated photo-detector IC on the output side, separated by an optically transparent insulator providing 5000 Vrms galvanic isolation. When forward current flows through the input LED (typically 1 mA threshold), the emitted infrared light is detected by the photo-IC, which amplifies the photocurrent and drives the totem-pole output buffer to the appropriate logic level. The totem-pole output actively drives both high and low states, unlike open-collector optocouplers that require external pull-up resistors. An internal Faraday shield between LED and detector provides the high 25 kV per microsecond CMTI by suppressing capacitive coupling of common-mode transients. The photo-IC integrates a comparator with hysteresis for clean switching, plus a buffer stage that provides the logic output. A 0.1 microfarad bypass capacitor between VDD (pin 6) and GND (pin 4) is required for stable operation.

TLP2710 uses the SO6L (6-SOIC, 7.5mm wide) package from Toshiba with Pin 1 = Anode (LED+), Pin 2 = NC (no connect), Pin 3 = Cathode (LED-), Pin 4 = GND, Pin 5 = VO (logic output), Pin 6 = VDD. The internal structure consists of an infrared LED on the input side (Pins 1,3) coupled to a photo-IC detector on the output side (Pins 4-6). The NC pin 2 is left floating. The push-pull (totem-pole) output on Pin 5 actively drives both HIGH and LOW levels without an external pull-up resistor. The wide-body SO6L package (7.5mm vs 3.9mm standard SOIC) provides the 5kVrms creepage/clearance distance for reinforced insulation. Pin 1 is identified by a dot or notch on the package.

TLP2710 is a 5Mbps high-speed logic-output optocoupler from Toshiba in SO6L with 5kVrms isolation and ±25kV/µs CMTI. The TLP2745 offers 10Mbps higher speed in the same SO6L package. TLP2710(D4 is the tape-and-reel version. For lower-cost alternatives, PC817 provides phototransistor output at lower speed (100kbps). ACPL-M61L from Broadcom/Avago offers 25Mbps in a smaller SO-6 package for space-constrained designs.
