The TLC6C5712QPWPRQ1 from Texas Instruments is an AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified 12-channel constant-current LED driver designed for automotive safety-critical applications. Each of the 12 DMOS current-sink outputs can drive up to 75 mA with +/-3% accuracy across channels and devices. The 8-bit dot correction (256 steps per channel) compensates for LED brightness and color variations. Six PWM inputs with frequency supervision enable flexible dimming control with fault detection if PWM signals are lost. Comprehensive diagnostics include open-load, short-to-GND, adjacent-pin short, LED weak supply, and reference resistor fault detection. Thermal prewarning alerts the system before thermal shutdown, enabling graceful degradation. The SPI interface includes a register lock feature to prevent unintended configuration changes. The HTSSOP-28 PowerPAD package provides excellent thermal performance.

The TLC6C5712QPWPRQ1 uses 12 power DMOS transistors as current-sink outputs. An external reference resistor (RIREF) sets the maximum output current: IOUT = 1275 x VREF / RIREF, where VREF is the internal 1.24V reference. The 8-bit dot correction register per channel scales the output current from 0% to 100% in 256 steps, compensating for LED bin variations. PWM dimming is achieved through six external PWM input pins, each of which can be mapped to any combination of the 12 output channels via SPI-programmable channel mapping registers. The frequency supervision circuit monitors each PWM input and flags an error if the PWM frequency falls outside the expected range, indicating a broken PWM signal path. The diagnostic engine continuously monitors all 12 outputs for open-load (no LED connected), short-to-GND (LED shorted), and adjacent-pin short (solder bridge) conditions, reporting faults via an open-drain error pin and SPI status registers. The thermal prewarning threshold is set at approximately 150C, while thermal shutdown occurs at approximately 175C.
