The ST7FMC2S6T6 from STMicroelectronics is an 8-bit ST7 family microcontroller specifically optimized for brushless DC (BLDC) motor control applications. The device features 32KB Flash program memory, 512 bytes RAM, a 10-bit ADC with 6 channels, and five timers including a dedicated motor control timer with PWM generation. The integrated motor control peripheral supports sensorless BEMF (back-EMF) detection for commutation, reducing external component count. The LINSCI interface provides automotive-standard communication, and nested interrupt support enables real-time motor control loop execution.

The ST7FMC2S6T6 operates as an 8-bit motor control microcontroller. (1) The ST7 CPU core fetches and executes instructions from Flash, with nested interrupt support allowing high-priority motor control ISRs to preempt lower-priority tasks. (2) The dedicated motor control peripheral generates the six PWM signals required for three-phase BLDC motor commutation, with programmable dead time to prevent shoot-through. The BEMF zero-crossing detection allows sensorless commutation without Hall sensors, detecting the motor position from the unenergized phase voltage. (3) The 10-bit ADC monitors motor current for overcurrent protection and DC bus voltage for brownout detection. The SPI interface communicates with external peripherals, while LINSCI provides single-wire automotive network connectivity.
