The SSR10VS-22026 from KEMET is a 2.6mH 2.2A common mode choke from the SSR10VS series. Common mode chokes are essential components in EMI filtering, suppressing common mode noise currents that flow in the same direction on both power lines while allowing differential mode current (the useful power delivery) to pass with minimal impedance. The 2.6mH inductance at 10kHz provides strong common mode noise suppression in the 150kHz to 30MHz frequency range covered by CISPR/FCC EMI regulations. The SSR10VS series is designed for commercial equipment including office automation, audio-visual, and digital appliances, providing broadband noise suppression in a compact through-hole package.

The SSR10VS-22026 operates as a common mode choke using two windings wound on a single ferrite core with the same number of turns and winding direction. For differential mode current (power delivery), the magnetic fields from the two windings cancel each other in the core, resulting in minimal inductance (leakage inductance only, typically 1-5% of the common mode inductance) and low impedance to the useful power current. For common mode noise (unwanted noise currents flowing in the same direction on both lines), the magnetic fields add constructively, presenting the full 2.6mH inductance and high impedance to the noise current. This selective impedance allows the common mode choke to suppress EMI without affecting normal power delivery. The through-hole construction provides reliable solder joints that withstand the mechanical stress and thermal cycling common in power supply applications.
