The SMF5.0A is a 200 W unidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode in a SOD-123FL package, designed to protect 5 V circuits from ESD, EFT, and surge transients. As the 5 V variant of the SMF series, it provides the same form factor and protection capability as the SMF12A but optimized for 5 V logic and USB power rails.

The SMF5.0A is a 200 W unidirectional TVS diode in a SOD-123FL package designed to protect 5 V circuits. With 5.0 V standoff voltage and clamping voltage around 9.2 V at rated current, it shields 5 V logic, USB power rails, and MCU VCC pins from ESD and surge damage. The SOD-123FL package provides a low-profile footprint for dense PCB layouts in consumer electronics.

The SMF5.0A operates on the same avalanche principle as the SMF12A but with a lower breakdown voltage optimized for 5 V rail protection. The lower voltage Zener structure results in higher leakage current (up to 800 uA at standoff) compared to the 12 V variant, which is an inherent characteristic of low-voltage TVS devices. The clamping voltage of approximately 9.2 V at full pulse current provides effective protection for 5 V CMOS logic with its absolute maximum rating of typically 7 V. The TVS response time is sub-nanosecond, faster than conventional Zener diodes due to the optimized avalanche structure.
