The SMCJ48A/TR13 from Littelfuse is a 1500W unidirectional TVS diode with 48V reverse standoff, 77.4V clamping voltage at 19.4A, and 1uA leakage in an SMC (DO-214AB) package for 48V system surge protection.

The TVS diode operates in reverse breakdown mode. Under normal operating conditions (voltage below VR=48V), the diode presents high impedance with only 1uA leakage current. When a transient voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage (VBR), the diode avalanches and clamps the voltage to a safe level (VC=77.4V) while shunting the surge current. After the transient passes, the diode returns to its high-impedance state. The unidirectional configuration protects against positive transients only; for bidirectional protection, use the SMCJ48CA variant.
