The S5GC-13-F operates as a Zener diode in the reverse breakdown region. When the reverse voltage exceeds the Zener breakdown voltage (5.1V nominal), the diode conducts and maintains a nearly constant voltage across its terminals. The low dynamic impedance (15Ω at 5 mA) ensures reasonable voltage regulation under varying load conditions. In forward bias, the device behaves as a standard silicon diode with approximately 0.7V forward drop.
