The PIC18F25K22-I/SO is a Microchip Technology 8-bit PIC18 microcontroller in a 28-pin SOIC package. The 64KB Flash program memory and 3.9KB SRAM provide ample resources for complex embedded applications. The 64MHz maximum clock frequency delivers 16 MIPS performance with the enhanced PIC18 core featuring a hardware multiply instruction (8×8 in single cycle), two 16-bit file select registers, and an extended instruction set with linear program memory addressing. The dual serial communication peripherals (2 UART, 2 MSSP supporting SPI and I2C) enable simultaneous multi-protocol communication – for example, bridging an I2C sensor bus to a UART host while simultaneously managing an SPI display. The 12-bit ADC with 18 input channels and auto-acquisition provides high-resolution analog measurement. The two Enhanced CCP modules support PWM, capture, and compare functions for motor control and power conversion. The eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology achieves 30nA sleep current, critical for battery-powered applications. The hardware Real-Time Clock/Calendar (RTCC) with battery backup maintains timekeeping in sleep. The I suffix indicates industrial temperature range (-40C to +85C).

The PIC18F25K22 uses the enhanced PIC18 core with Harvard architecture – separate 16-bit program and 8-bit data memory buses. The program counter addresses 64KB of Flash in linear space via extended instruction set mode, while the data memory uses banked addressing with 16 access banks. The instruction pipeline fetches and executes in a 4-clock cycle, but the enhanced core reduces most instructions to single-cycle execution at 64MHz (16 MIPS). The hardware multiplier performs 8×8 unsigned multiply in one instruction cycle. The dual MSSP peripherals implement SPI (master/slave with clock rates up to FOSC/4) and I2C (master/slave/multi-master at up to 1MHz). The EUSART modules support asynchronous UART with auto-baud detection and synchronous operation. The 12-bit successive approximation ADC uses a capacitive charge redistribution DAC with auto-acquisition timing. The XLP sleep mode shuts down the core oscillator while keeping the RTCC running from T1OSCO or LFINTOSC, consuming only 30nA.
