The NCV887302D1R2G is a non-synchronous boost controller from onsemi’s automotive-qualified NCV series, designed for DC-DC power conversion with 2.5V to 40V input voltage range in a DFN-8 surface-mount package. AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified for the full automotive temperature range (-40°C to +150°C), it provides robust boost conversion for automotive applications including LED lighting, battery-powered systems, and industrial power supplies. The non-synchronous topology uses an external diode and MOSFET, offering design flexibility for optimization of efficiency and cost.

The NCV887302D1R2G operates as a non-synchronous boost controller:

1. Boost Topology: The controller drives an external N-Channel MOSFET in a boost converter configuration. When the MOSFET is ON, current flows through the inductor storing energy. When the MOSFET turns OFF, the inductor voltage adds to the input voltage, forcing current through the external diode to the output capacitor and load.

2. Voltage Mode Control: The controller uses voltage-mode PWM control with adjustable switching frequency. An external voltage divider sets the output voltage through the feedback pin.

3. Protection Features: Built-in overcurrent protection (OCP), overvoltage protection (OVP), and thermal shutdown protect the circuit under fault conditions. The wide input range (2.5V-40V) handles automotive load dump transients.

4. AEC-Q100 Grade 1: Qualified for the most demanding automotive environment, operating reliably at junction temperatures up to 150°C.

Note: DFN-8 package has exposed thermal pad on the bottom for heat dissipation. The pad must be soldered to the PCB ground plane for proper thermal management.
