The MSP430FR5994IPM from Texas Instruments is a 16MHz 16-bit MSP430 microcontroller with 256KB FRAM and 8KB SRAM in a LQFP-64 package. It features ultra-low power consumption and integrated analog peripherals.

The MSP430 uses a 16-bit RISC CPU with 27 core instructions and 7 addressing modes. FRAM (Ferroelectric RAM) provides non-volatile storage that can be written at byte-level without erase cycles, enabling data retention without power and virtually unlimited write endurance. The CPU is active only when needed, with multiple low-power modes (LPM0-LPM4.5) that shut down clocks and peripherals to minimize current draw.
