The LT4356IMS-3 monitors both overvoltage and overcurrent conditions through external sense networks. The FB pin senses the output voltage through a resistor divider; when it exceeds the reference threshold, the error amplifier reduces GATE drive to regulate the output at the clamped voltage. For overcurrent, the voltage between VCC and SNS pins is monitored; an internal amplifier limits the sense voltage to 50 mV. In either fault condition, a fault timer (set by the TMR capacitor) starts inversely proportional to MOSFET stress. If the timer expires, FLT pulls low and the MOSFET turns off. The -3 variant latches the MOSFET off until the SHDN pin is momentarily pulled low, preventing automatic restart in persistent fault conditions. The auxiliary amplifier (IN+, AOUT) can be configured as a voltage comparator for level detection or as a linear regulator controller driving an external PNP pass transistor.
