The LT1761ES5-SD#TRPBF from Analog Devices (formerly Linear Technology) is a micropower, low-noise LDO linear regulator in a 5-pin SOT-23 package. The SD (adjustable) version allows the output voltage to be set from 1.22V to 20V using an external resistor divider. The device achieves an exceptionally low output noise of 20uVRms over the 0.1Hz to 100kHz bandwidth, making it suitable for powering noise-sensitive RF receivers, high-resolution ADCs, and precision analog circuits. The 300mV dropout voltage at 100mA load enables operation from batteries with minimal voltage headroom. The 20uA quiescent current is among the lowest for any LDO in this performance class, and the shutdown pin reduces supply current to less than 1uA for power-saving modes. The device is stable with just a 1uF ceramic output capacitor, simplifying PCB layout.

The LT1761ES5-SD uses a PNP pass transistor in a series-pass linear regulator topology. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage (FB pin) with an internal 1.22V bandgap reference and drives the base of the PNP pass transistor to maintain regulation. The low 300mV dropout is achieved because the PNP transistor operates in saturation, requiring only VCE(sat) of headroom rather than the VGS+VDS of MOSFET-based LDOs. The ultra-low output noise is achieved through an internal RC filter on the bandgap reference that attenuates reference noise before it reaches the error amplifier. The shutdown (SD) pin controls the pass transistor bias; when SD is pulled low, the bias circuitry is disabled and the pass transistor is turned off, reducing supply current to less than 1uA. The output capacitor provides frequency compensation and must be at least 1uF with ESR less than 2 ohms for stability.
