The LMZ34002RKGR is a SIMPLE SWITCHER power module from Texas Instruments designed to generate negative output voltages with minimal external components. It integrates a complete DC-DC converter including a shielded inductor in a compact 9 x 11 mm QFN package. The module accepts 4.5 V to 40 V input and produces an adjustable negative output from -3 V to -17 V at up to 2 A. Only five external components are required, eliminating loop compensation and magnetic component selection challenges. The integrated shielded inductor ensures EN55022 Class B EMI compliance and simplifies PCB layout.

The LMZ34002RKGR operates as a buck-boost (inverting) converter. The input voltage is applied across an internal power MOSFET and the integrated shielded inductor. During the ON-time, current builds in the inductor through the high-side switch. During the OFF-time, the inductor current flows through the low-side switch to the output capacitor and load, generating a negative output voltage. The controller uses voltage-mode control with input voltage feedforward for line regulation. An internal oscillator runs at 800 kHz (typical), and the device can be synchronized to an external clock. Protection circuits include cycle-by-cycle current limiting, output overcurrent protection, undervoltage lockout, and overtemperature shutdown.
