The LMR33630ADDAR is a Texas Instruments 3A 36V step-down converter in an HSOIC-8 package, designed for industrial and automotive power conversion from 12V/24V bus rails. The 4V to 36V input range accommodates the full automotive input range including cold-crank and load-dump transients with external suppression. The 22uA quiescent current in PFM mode maximizes light-load efficiency for always-on housekeeping supplies. The 400kHz fixed switching frequency balances efficiency and solution size, with internal compensation eliminating external R-C networks. The integrated 100mohm high-side and 55mohm low-side MOSFETs provide 3A continuous output with good efficiency. Current-mode control ensures fast transient response and cycle-by-cycle peak current limiting. The device transitions seamlessly between PWM mode (heavy load) and PFM mode (light load) for high efficiency across the full load range. Hiccup-mode overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown handle fault conditions. The HSOIC-8 package with exposed thermal pad provides good power dissipation capability. Packaged in HSOIC-8 rated for -40C to +125C.

The LMR33630 uses peak current-mode PWM control with an integrated high-side NMOS and low-side NMOS synchronous rectifier. During each 400kHz switching period, the high-side MOSFET turns on, ramping up the inductor current until the peak current reaches the error amplifier commanded level. The high-side MOSFET then turns off and the low-side MOSFET turns on, allowing inductor current to ramp down through the synchronous rectifier. The error amplifier compares the FB pin voltage (via external resistor divider) with the 1V internal reference, adjusting the peak current command to maintain output regulation. At light loads, the device enters PFM skip mode where switching pulses are issued only when the output drops below the regulation threshold, reducing effective switching frequency and minimizing switching losses. Internal slope compensation prevents sub-harmonic oscillation at duty cycles above 50%. The bootstrap capacitor (CB) on the BOOT pin provides gate drive for the high-side NMOS.
