The LM35DZ/NOPB is a precision integrated-circuit temperature sensor from Texas Instruments whose output voltage is linearly proportional to the Celsius temperature. The LM35D variant provides a 0°C to +100°C operating range with ±0.5°C typical accuracy at 25°C. The device outputs 10mV per degree Celsius, requiring no external calibration. It operates from a single 4V to 30V supply and draws only 60µA, resulting in very low self-heating of just 0.08°C in still air. The low 0.1Ω output impedance allows direct interface with ADCs or control circuits without buffering. The TO-92 package is ideal for through-hole mounting in applications where ease of prototyping and thermal contact are priorities.

The LM35DZ/NOPB uses a pair of transistors operating at different current densities to generate a voltage proportional to absolute temperature (PTAT). Two identical NPN transistors are biased at a 10:1 current ratio, producing a ΔVBE of (kT/q)·ln(10) ≈ 59.16µV/°C. This small PTAT voltage is amplified by an internal precision amplifier to produce the 10mV/°C output. The gain is laser-trimmed at wafer level during manufacturing to achieve ±0.5°C accuracy without user calibration. The output buffer provides the low 0.1Ω output impedance, allowing the device to drive capacitive loads and ADC inputs without instability. The 60µA supply current flows primarily through the bias network and amplifier, and the small die size results in minimal self-heating. For basic temperature sensing, only a single supply and output connection are needed; for negative temperature measurement, a pull-down resistor can be added to the output to sink current below ground.
