The u-blox LEA-6S-0-001 is a cost-effective, high-performance GPS receiver module based on the u-blox 6 positioning engine. It brings 50-channel GPS L1 reception with SBAS augmentation to the industry-standard LEA form factor (17.0 x 22.4 x 2.4mm), enabling easy migration from earlier LEA-5 designs. The module features over 2 million hardware correlators that enable massive parallel time/frequency space searches, achieving sub-1-second hot start TTFF and reliable acquisition even in challenging signal environments. The LEA-6S variant provides essential GPS functionality without dead reckoning or precision timing features, targeting cost-sensitive applications. The -0-001 packaging code indicates ROM-based firmware supplied on tape-and-reel, suitable for automated surface-mount assembly. Multiple serial interfaces (UART, USB, DDC/I2C) provide flexible connectivity to host processors, while the low 50mA tracking current and configurable Power Save Mode support battery-operated designs.

The LEA-6S module integrates a complete GPS receiver chain from RF front-end through baseband processing to position calculation. The internal LNA amplifies the 1575.42MHz GPS L1 signal from the active or passive antenna, followed by downconversion and digitization in the RF section. The baseband correlator array, with over 2 million parallel correlators, simultaneously searches across multiple Doppler shifts and code phases to rapidly acquire satellite signals. Once acquired, the delay-locked loops (DLL) track each satellite C/A code while carrier-tracking loops maintain phase lock. The navigation processor computes pseudoranges from tracked satellites and solves the position using a Kalman filter-based algorithm. Position, velocity, and time (PVT) solutions are output via NMEA or u-blox proprietary UBX protocol through the UART, USB, or DDC interfaces. The on-chip TCXO provides the frequency reference, and the real-time clock maintains timing during backup mode with only 22uA current consumption.
