The L6384ED from STMicroelectronics is a high-voltage half-bridge gate driver designed to drive N-channel MOSFETs or IGBTs in half-bridge power conversion topologies. A key feature is the integrated bootstrap diode that eliminates the need for an external fast-recovery diode, reducing component count and board space. The device supports high-side floating supply voltages up to 600V, making it suitable for offline power conversion and motor drive applications. The interlocking function prevents the high-side and low-side outputs from being simultaneously active, protecting the power stage from shoot-through current. The UVLO protection on both outputs ensures that the driver outputs are disabled until the supply voltage reaches the minimum threshold.

The L6384ED provides level-shifted gate drive for the high-side MOSFET/IGBT using a bootstrap technique. The integrated bootstrap diode charges the bootstrap capacitor (CBOOT) from VCC through the diode when the low-side switch is on (HVG output is low). When the high-side driver needs to turn on, the charge stored in CBOOT provides the floating supply for the high-side driver circuit, referenced to the OUT pin (switch node). The level-shifting circuit translates the logic-level input (HIN) to the high-side driver referenced to the floating supply. The interlocking logic ensures that when HIN and LIN are both high, only one output activates, preventing cross-conduction. The UVLO circuits on both the VCC and CBOOT supplies prevent driving the MOSFETs with insufficient gate voltage, which would cause excessive conduction losses.
