The Kingbright L-833HD is a 10mm diameter through-hole LED lamp from the L-833 series, featuring a high-diffusion (HD) red emitting element with a diffused lens that provides uniform light distribution across a wide viewing angle. The 10mm package is one of the largest standard LED lamp sizes, offering exceptional on-axis visibility that makes it ideal for industrial indicators, control panels, and signaling applications where the LED must be visible from a distance and from off-axis viewing positions. The HD (high diffusion) lens type eliminates the bright central spot characteristic of clear-lens LEDs, instead producing a soft, evenly illuminated dome that is easily seen from any angle. The GaAsP on GaP (or AlGaInP) chip technology provides reliable red emission at approximately 630-660nm wavelength with a typical forward voltage of 2.0V at 20mA, compatible with direct drive from 3.3V or 5V logic with a simple series resistor.

The L-833HD LED operates through electroluminescence in a forward-biased pn junction. When a forward voltage exceeding the bandgap threshold (approximately 1.9V for red GaAsP) is applied, electrons and holes recombine at the junction, releasing energy as photons at a wavelength determined by the semiconductor bandgap (630-660nm for red emission). The diffused lens is created by texturing or frosting the epoxy dome surface, which scatters the emitted light in multiple directions rather than focusing it into a narrow beam. This scattering effect dramatically increases the viewing angle while reducing the peak on-axis intensity compared to a clear-lens LED of the same chip power. The result is a uniform, soft red glow visible from wide off-axis angles, which is preferred for indicator applications where the viewer’s position is not fixed.
