The HFD27/012-S from Hongfa is a 12VDC ultra-sensitive DPDT (2 Form C) signal relay in a DIP-16 through-hole package. The relay features two independent changeover contact sets, each rated for 2A at 30VDC or 0.5A at 125VAC, suitable for low-level signal switching. The 12VDC coil has a resistance of approximately 400 Ohm, drawing only 30mA at nominal voltage for low power consumption. The 5000Vrms dielectric strength between coil and contacts provides excellent isolation for safety-critical applications including medical and telecom equipment. The sealed relay construction (plastic-sealed type) enables compatibility with automatic PCB washing processes. The relay achieves 10 million mechanical operations minimum, ensuring long service life in frequently switched applications. The DIP-16 footprint with 2.54mm pin pitch allows direct insertion into standard PCB sockets or soldering. The HFD27 series is widely used in industrial automation, security systems, and telecommunications where reliable signal switching with high isolation is required.

The HFD27/012-S uses an electromagnetic coil to mechanically switch contacts. (1) Coil Energization: When 12VDC is applied across the coil (pins 1-16), current flows through the coil winding, generating a magnetic field in the iron core. The magnetic field attracts the armature, which is held in place by the residual magnetic force while energized. (2) Contact Transfer: The armature movement is mechanically linked to the contact springs. When the coil is energized, the common (COM) contacts disconnect from the normally closed (NC) contacts and connect to the normally open (NO) contacts. When the coil is de-energized, the return spring moves the armature back, and the contacts revert to their normal state. (3) Arc Suppression: The low switching current (2A max) and voltage (30VDC) minimize contact arcing. For inductive loads, external suppression circuits (RC snubbers or diodes) may be needed to extend contact life. (4) Isolation: The physical separation between the coil and contacts, combined with the insulating bobbin and housing, provides the 5000Vrms dielectric strength. This ensures that no hazardous voltage can reach the control circuit from the load circuit.
