The FXMA2102L8X from onsemi is a 2-bit bidirectional I2C voltage level translator in MicroPak-8 (1.6×1.6mm). Supports translation between any two voltage levels from 1.65V to 5.5V with automatic direction sensing — no direction control pin needed. I2C-compatible open-drain I/O with 400pF bus buffer capability. 3ns propagation delay, 6mA sink current, 5µA quiescent current. L8X suffix denotes MicroPak-8 tape-and-reel. Ideal for mixed-voltage I2C bus bridging in portable devices.

The FXMA2102 uses a pass-gate architecture with automatic direction detection. Each channel has two dynamic drivers (one for A-to-B and one for B-to-A direction) with an internal direction generator that monitors both ports. When one port is driven low by an external I2C device, the corresponding driver on the other port activates to pull that port low as well. The open-drain I/O structure matches I2C bus requirements — external pull-up resistors on both ports are required. The OE pin (referenced to VCCA) enables or disables the translator; tying OE to VCCA provides always-on operation without consuming a GPIO. When either VCC is removed, all outputs automatically enter 3-state mode, preventing back-driving.
