The DP83822IFRHBT from Texas Instruments is an ultra-robust, low-power single-port 10/100Mbps Ethernet PHY transceiver designed for harsh industrial environments. The DP83822IF industrial-grade version operates from -40C to +125C with IEC 61000-4-2 +/-8kV contact ESD and IEC 61000-4-4 4kV EFT Class A protection. It supports 100BASE-FX fiber optic in addition to 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-Te copper. MAC interfaces include RGMII, RMII, and MII. Power consumption is less than 120mW at 1.8V AVD. Features include IEEE 802.3az EEE, Wake-on-LAN, IEEE 1588 start-of-frame detection, cable diagnostics, BIST, and multiple loopback modes. Supports industrial Ethernet protocols including EtherCAT and PROFINET with fast link-down detection.

The DP83822IFRHBT implements the IEEE 802.3 physical layer for 10/100 Ethernet with industrial-grade robustness. (1) 100BASE-TX: The PHY encodes transmit data using 4B/5B and MLT-3, and decodes received MLT-3 signals with adaptive equalization. (2) 100BASE-FX: For fiber connections, the PHY connects to an external fiber optic transceiver via dedicated fiber pins, supporting long-distance links. (3) 10BASE-Te: Manchester encoding/decoding for 10Mbps operation. (4) Auto-Negotiation and Auto-MDIX: Automatic speed, duplex, and crossover detection. (5) RGMII/RMII/MII: The configurable MAC interface supports reduced pin count (RMII, RGMII) or full MII depending on system requirements. (6) EEE: During idle periods, the PHY enters low-power mode while maintaining link, reducing power consumption. (7) Robustness: Integrated ESD and EFT protection on the MDI pins eliminates the need for external TVS diodes in many applications.
