The CMT-8540S-SMT-TR from CUI Devices is a surface-mount piezoelectric buzzer with 85dB minimum sound pressure output at its resonant frequency. Operating from a DC supply, it contains a built-in drive circuit that generates a continuous tone without requiring external AC drive. The SMT variant with tape-and-reel packaging enables automated PCB assembly.

The CUI Devices CMT-8540S-SMT-TR is a surface-mount piezoelectric buzzer with a built-in oscillator circuit that generates a continuous tone when DC power is applied. Unlike external-drive piezo transducers that require an AC drive signal, this self-drive buzzer simply needs a DC supply connection (typically 5V) to operate. The 85dB minimum sound pressure level at 10cm provides clearly audible alert indication in consumer, medical, and industrial environments. The 8.5 x 8.5mm square SMD package is compatible with standard pick-and-place equipment, and the tape-and-reel packaging supports high-volume automated assembly. The low profile of 4.0mm allows use in thin enclosures.

The CMT-8540S contains a piezoelectric ceramic disc bonded to a metal diaphragm, combined with a built-in oscillator circuit. The internal oscillator generates a square-wave drive signal at the resonant frequency of the piezo element (approximately 4kHz), causing the disc to vibrate at maximum amplitude and produce the loudest possible sound output. The built-in oscillator eliminates the need for external drive circuitry on the host PCB, simplifying system design to just a DC power connection and a control signal.
