The Infineon BTS5090-1EJA is a single-channel smart high-side power switch from the PROFET+ 12V family, designed specifically for driving automotive lamps up to 1 x P21W and LED loads. Built using Infineon’s Smart6 technology, the device integrates an N-channel vertical power MOSFET with a charge pump and comprehensive protection circuitry on a single die. With an RDS(on) of 90 mΩ at 25°C and nominal load current of 3 A, it provides efficient power switching for automotive body electronics. The device features very low standby current, 3.3 V and 5 V compatible logic inputs, and the logic ground is independent from the load ground, simplifying PCB layout. AEC qualification ensures reliable operation in the harsh automotive environment.

The BTS5090-1EJA operates as a high-side power switch where an N-channel vertical power MOSFET is connected between the supply voltage and the load. An internal charge pump generates the gate voltage above the supply rail to fully enhance the MOSFET, achieving the low 90 mΩ on-resistance. When the IN pin is driven high (compatible with 3.3 V and 5 V logic), the charge pump activates and turns on the MOSFET, connecting the load to the supply. The IS (sense) pin provides diagnostic information proportional to the load current when the DEN (diagnostic enable) pin is active. Protection circuits monitor junction temperature, load current, and supply voltage: overtemperature triggers shutdown above 170°C with automatic restart after cooling, overcurrent limitation caps the output at a minimum of 22 A during short circuits, and overvoltage protection activates at 47 V to protect against load dump transients.
