The BC856B from Nexperia is a PNP general-purpose bipolar junction transistor in an industry-standard SOT-23-3 surface mount package. The B group specifies hFE of 200 to 450 at IC=-2mA, providing tighter gain distribution. The -65V VCEO and -100mA IC ratings cover a broad range of low-power applications. The complementary NPN device (BC846B) enables push-pull and bridge configurations. The BC856 series is the PNP complement to the widely used BC846 NPN series. Note: BC856B without the 215 suffix indicates bulk/tube packaging, while BC856B215 specifies tape and reel.

The BC856B is a planar epitaxial PNP bipolar junction transistor. In PNP operation, holes are the majority carriers, injected from the P-type emitter through the N-type base to the P-type collector when the base-emitter junction is forward-biased. The collector current is proportional to the base current, with hFE of 200-450 for the B group. The -120 mV VCE(sat) is slightly higher than the NPN BC846B due to lower hole mobility. The 100 MHz fT supports moderate-frequency amplification. The SOT-23 package limits continuous dissipation to 250 mW.
