The ATMEGA328-AU is an 8-bit AVR RISC microcontroller from Microchip Technology, widely known as the heart of the Arduino Uno platform. It combines 32 KB ISP Flash memory with read-while-write capability, 2 KB SRAM, and 1 KB EEPROM in a TQFP-32 package. The device achieves throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz, balancing power consumption and processing speed. With a comprehensive peripheral set including USART, SPI, I2C, 10-bit ADC, and flexible timer/PWM modules, it is well-suited for a wide range of embedded control applications.

The ATMEGA328-AU executes instructions from its AVR RISC core with a 2-stage pipeline, achieving near-single-cycle execution for most instructions. The 32 general-purpose registers are directly connected to the ALU, allowing single-cycle register-to-register operations. In-system programming allows firmware updates without removing the device.
