The ADUM5000ARWZ from Analog Devices is an isoPower® integrated isolated DC-DC converter based on iCoupler® chip-scale transformer technology. Providing regulated 5V or 3.3V isolated output at up to 500 mW, it eliminates external transformers in isolated power designs. With 2500 Vrms isolation, >25 kV/µs CMTI, and thermal overload protection in a 16-lead SOIC-W package, it is ideal for RS-485/RS-232 transceiver isolation, industrial field bus, and sensor interface applications.

The ADUM5000ARWZ from Analog Devices is an isoPower integrated isolated DC-DC converter using iCoupler chip-scale transformer technology. Providing regulated 5V or 3.3V isolated output at up to 500 mW with 2500 Vrms isolation and >25 kV/µs CMTI, it eliminates external transformers. With UL/CSA/VDE safety approvals, thermal protection, and a 16-lead SOIC-W package with >8 mm creepage, it is designed for RS-485/RS-232 transceiver isolation, industrial field bus, and sensor interface applications.

The ADUM5000ARWZ uses Analog Devices’ iCoupler technology with on-chip microscale transformers to transfer power across the isolation barrier. The primary side contains a 180 MHz oscillator that drives the transformer through a PWM controller at 625 kHz. The secondary side rectifies and regulates the transformer output using an LDO to provide a clean 5V or 3.3V output (selected by the VSEL pin). The chip-scale planar transformers are fabricated on a single die using thick-film polyimide insulation layers, achieving 2500 Vrms isolation with >8 mm creepage. The high CMTI (>25 kV/µs) is inherent to the transformer-based coupling, which is immune to the LED degradation issues of optocouplers. The RCIN/RCOUT pins allow external RC filtering to reduce radiated emissions per AN-0971. The thermal overload protection shuts down the converter when junction temperature exceeds the threshold, auto-restarting when cooled.
