The ADUM1200BRZ from Analog Devices is a dual-channel digital isolator built on the proprietary iCoupler technology. Unlike traditional optocouplers, iCoupler devices use chip-scale microtransformers for signal transfer across the isolation barrier, providing superior performance with lower power consumption, higher data rates, and better common-mode transient immunity. The ADUM1200BRZ provides 2500V rms isolation with 25 Mbps data rate, making it ideal for isolating high-speed digital interfaces such as SPI, UART, and general-purpose logic signals.

The ADUM1200BRZ uses Analog Devices iCoupler technology to transfer digital signals across an isolation barrier. **Signal Transfer Subsystem**: On-chip planar microtransformers fabricated on a polyimide insulation layer provide galvanic isolation. Data is encoded on the input side, driven through the transformer as high-frequency pulses, and decoded on the output side. The polyimide insulation provides the 2500V rms isolation rating. **Refresh Mechanism**: A periodic refresh signal is sent across the barrier to maintain the correct output state even when input data is static (DC). If the refresh signal is not received, the output defaults to a predetermined safe state. **Power Isolation**: Each side of the isolator operates from its own independent supply (2.7V to 5.5V), enabling level translation between 3V and 5V logic domains. **EMI Subsystem**: Shielding and careful layout minimize radiated emissions from the high-frequency transformer drive signals.
