The ADM232AARNZ-REEL is a +5V powered RS-232 transceiver from Analog Devices featuring 4 drivers and 4 receivers that meet EIA-232E specifications. The internal charge pump voltage doubler and inverter generate +/-10V RS-232 levels from a single +5V supply using only 4 external 0.1uF capacitors. Enhanced +/-15kV ESD protection on RS-232 pins ensures robust operation in harsh environments.

The ADM232A uses an internal charge pump to generate the +/-10V supply voltages required for RS-232 transmit levels from a single +5V input. The charge pump consists of a voltage doubler generating V+ and a voltage inverter generating V-. Each transmitter converts TTL/CMOS logic levels to RS-232 voltage levels, while each receiver converts RS-232 levels back to TTL/CMOS. The 120kbps data rate supports standard RS-232 communication speeds.
