The ADG1608BCPZ-REEL7 from Analog Devices is a monolithic CMOS 8-channel analog multiplexer in a 16-lead LFCSP-WQ package. The B suffix denotes the B-grade on-resistance (10 Ohm max), CPZ indicates the 16-lead LFCSP package with exposed pad, and REEL7 specifies 7-inch tape and reel packaging. The device switches one of eight inputs (S1-S8) to a common output (D) as determined by the 3-bit binary address lines (A0, A1, A2). An EN input enables or disables the device; when disabled, all channels are off. The 4.5 Ohm typical on-resistance with 1 Ohm flatness minimizes signal attenuation and distortion when routing analog signals. The device conducts equally well in both directions when on, with input signal ranges extending to the supply rails. The break-before-make switching action prevents momentary shorting between channels during transitions. The 5pC typical charge injection is low enough for precision sample-and-hold and data acquisition applications. The 0.04% THD+N specification makes the ADG1608 suitable for audio signal routing. The device operates from single 3.3V to 16V or dual +/-3.3V to +/-8V supplies without requiring a separate VL logic supply, as the 3V logic-compatible inputs accept TTL/CMOS levels directly.

The ADG1608BCPZ-REEL7 uses a CMOS transmission gate topology for each switch channel. Each transmission gate consists of a parallel combination of an N-channel and a P-channel MOSFET, with their gates driven by complementary control signals. When the switch is on, both MOSFETs conduct, and the parallel combination provides a low, relatively constant on-resistance across the full signal range from negative to positive supply rails. The N-channel device conducts well for signals near the negative rail, while the P-channel device conducts well for signals near the positive rail; together they provide the rail-to-rail switching capability. The 3-bit address decoder and EN input generate the individual switch control signals. The break-before-make circuitry inserts a brief dead time (all switches off) between turning off the current channel and turning on the next channel, preventing crosstalk and momentary shorting. The charge injection of 5pC occurs when the gate control signal transitions, coupling a small amount of charge through the MOSFET gate-to-channel capacitance into the signal path. This is minimized by balancing the N-channel and P-channel contributions, which have opposite polarity charge injection that partially cancels.
