The AD5320BRTZ-REEL7 is an Analog Devices single-channel 12-bit buffered voltage output DAC in an ultra-compact 6-lead SOT-23 package. Operating from a 2.7V to 5.5V single supply, it consumes only 140uA at 5V (115uA at 3V), making it ideal for battery-powered portable instruments. The on-chip precision output amplifier provides rail-to-rail output swing for maximum dynamic range. The 3-wire SPI-compatible serial interface operates at clock rates up to 30MHz, enabling high-speed updates. The reference is derived from the power supply, eliminating the need for an external reference. Power-on reset ensures the DAC output starts at 0V, and the 200nA shutdown current preserves battery life in sleep modes. The device is pin-compatible with the 8-bit AD5300 and 10-bit AD5310 for easy resolution upgrades. Packaged in 6-lead SOT-23 rated for -40C to +105C.

The AD5320 uses a segmented string DAC architecture with 12-bit resolution. The 12-bit digital code is written via a 16-bit serial word through the 3-wire SPI interface (SYNC, SCLK, DIN). The internal decoder routes the digital code to the appropriate tap points on a resistive voltage divider string. The output buffer amplifier drives the VOUT pin with rail-to-rail capability and a 1V/us slew rate. The reference voltage for the DAC is derived directly from VDD, so the full-scale output equals VDD. A power-on reset circuit forces all DAC registers to zero code on power-up, producing 0V at the output until a valid write occurs. Three power-down modes are available through the control bits, reducing supply current to 200nA (5V) while providing software-selectable output termination loads.
