The ACS733KLATR-40AB-T from Allegro MicroSystems is a fully integrated Hall-effect current sensor IC in a SOIC-16 wide-body package. The device provides galvanically isolated AC/DC current measurement through an integrated primary conductor that carries the current to be measured. The magnetic field generated by the current is sensed by a Hall-effect element and converted to a proportional analog output voltage with 33mV/A sensitivity. The +/-40A measurement range with 2.1kVrms isolation voltage makes the device suitable for motor drive, inverter, and battery monitoring applications where high-voltage isolation is required. The 120kHz bandwidth supports monitoring of switching current waveforms in PWM-driven motor drives and switch-mode power supplies. The 3.3V single supply operation is compatible with modern 3.3V ADCs and microcontrollers. The ratiometric output means the output voltage is proportional to the supply voltage (0.5 x VCC at zero current), which minimizes errors from supply voltage variation when the ADC reference is derived from the same supply.

The ACS733KLATR-40AB-T uses Hall-effect sensing with an integrated primary conductor. (1) Primary Conductor: The current to be measured flows through an internal copper conductor (IP+ to IP- pins). This conductor is electrically isolated from the sensing circuitry by the IC molding compound, providing the 2.1kVrms galvanic isolation barrier. (2) Hall Sensing: The current flowing through the primary conductor generates a magnetic field proportional to the current amplitude. A Hall-effect element positioned adjacent to the conductor converts this magnetic field into a small voltage signal. (3) Signal Processing: The Hall voltage is amplified, filtered, and offset-corrected by integrated circuitry. The output stage produces a ratiometric analog voltage: VOUT = (0.5 x VCC) + (Sensitivity x IP), where IP is the primary current. At zero current, the output sits at mid-supply (0.5 x 3.3V = 1.65V). (4) Isolation: The primary conductor and the sensing circuit are separated by the IC package molding compound, which provides the 2.1kVrms dielectric isolation.
