The EMC2305-1-AP-TR from Microchip is a 5-channel RPM-based PWM fan speed controller with I2C/SMBus interface for server and networking thermal management. Each channel independently controls a 4-wire PWM fan using closed-loop RPM regulation. Tachometer inputs measure actual fan speed, while PWM outputs control duty cycle. The -1-AP-TR suffix specifies the QFN-24 package, tape-and-reel packaging.

Each fan channel reads the tachometer output from a 4-wire fan to measure actual RPM. A PID control loop compares actual RPM to the target set via I2C, adjusting PWM duty cycle to close the speed gap. If a fan fails (tachometer stops), fault detection alerts the host. The I2C interface provides register access for configuration, status, and fan speed programming.
