The TPS7A1601AQDGNRQ1 from Texas Instruments is an automotive-qualified high-voltage low-dropout linear regulator in a compact HVSSOP-8 package. The device accepts input voltages from 3 V to 40 V and delivers up to 150 mA output current with adjustable output voltage from 1.2 V to 18 V. The ultra-low 1 µA quiescent current makes it ideal for always-on automotive systems where the regulator must remain active while the vehicle is parked without significantly draining the battery. The 200 mV dropout voltage at 150 mA allows operation with minimal headroom from the battery. Reverse polarity protection up to -40 V protects against negative transients in automotive electrical systems. The device is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified for automotive applications and includes thermal shutdown, current limit, and enable/shutdown functions.

The TPS7A1601AQDGNRQ1 uses a P-channel MOSFET pass element in a low-dropout configuration. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage (from the external resistor divider) against a 1.2 V internal bandgap reference and drives the P-channel gate to maintain regulation. The ultra-low 1 µA quiescent current is achieved by using a low-bandwidth error amplifier and minimizing bias currents in the internal circuitry. The 40 V input rating is supported by a high-voltage fabrication process for the input stage and pass element. Reverse polarity protection uses internal circuitry that detects negative input voltage and turns off the pass element, blocking reverse current flow. The enable pin controls the regulator on/off state with a precise threshold, reducing current to 1 µA in shutdown.
