The S9S12G128F0CLF from NXP is a 16-bit HCS12 S12G family automotive microcontroller in 48-LQFP. It features 128KB Flash, 8KB RAM, and 4KB emulated EEPROM. A single MSCAN module provides CAN 2.0A/B communication with 5 receive buffers. Peripherals include 8-ch 10-bit ADC, 6-ch 8-bit PWM, 2x SCI, SPI, and 40 GPIO. The S9S12 prefix denotes the automotive-qualified version. The internal voltage regulator simplifies power supply design from 5V or 3.3V sources.

The S9S12G128F0CLF operates as a 16-bit automotive microcontroller. (1) The HCS12 CPU core executes from a 2-stage pipeline at up to 25MHz bus frequency. The 128KB Flash stores application code with 1000 cycle endurance. The 8KB RAM provides workspace for variables and stack. The 4KB emulated EEPROM uses a Flash-based algorithm to provide byte-level write endurance exceeding 100K cycles. (2) The MSCAN module implements CAN 2.0A/B protocol with 5 receive buffers and 3 transmit buffers. It supports standard and extended frame formats with programmable bit timing up to 1Mbps. (3) The Background Debug Mode (BDM) provides single-wire in-circuit debugging without occupying any GPIO pins. The internal voltage regulator generates 2.5V core voltage from 3.13-5.5V external supply, simplifying board design. The computer operating properly (COP) watchdog and clock monitor enhance system reliability.
