The Q 27.120-JXS32-20-30/30-LF from Jauch Quartz is a 27.120 MHz AT-cut fundamental mode quartz crystal in the compact JXS32 3.2 x 2.5 x 0.8mm 4-pad surface-mount package. The 27.120 MHz frequency falls within the 26.957-27.283 MHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) band, which is the standard frequency allocation for short-range radio control devices including RC vehicles, remote controls, and telemetry systems. The JXS32 series is Jauch’s 3225-size AT-cut crystal family covering 8.0 to 54.0 MHz in fundamental mode with seam-sealed ceramic/metal construction for excellent long-term stability. This device specifies ±30ppm tolerance at 25C and ±30ppm stability over the -20C to +70C temperature range with a 20pF load capacitance. The ESR of 50 Ohm maximum in the 22-29.999 MHz range ensures reliable oscillator start-up in most CMOS Pierce oscillator circuits. The 4-pad design (pads 2 and 4 connected to the metal lid for grounding) provides improved mechanical stability and parasitic shielding compared to 2-pad designs.

The Q 27.120-JXS32-20-30/30-LF operates as a piezoelectric resonator using an AT-cut quartz crystal blank vibrating in thickness-shear mode at its fundamental frequency of 27.120 MHz. The AT-cut orientation (35.25 degrees from the Z-axis) provides a cubic frequency-temperature characteristic that minimizes drift over the -20C to +70C range, with a turnover point near room temperature. In a Pierce oscillator circuit, the crystal operates at a frequency slightly above its series resonant point, where the crystal presents an inductive impedance that completes the feedback loop. The oscillation frequency is determined by f = fS x (1 + C1 / (2 x (C0 + CL))), where the 20pF load capacitance CL (comprising external capacitors plus stray PCB capacitance) sets the operating point on the crystal’s reactance curve. The 30ppm tolerance includes the initial calibration accuracy at 25C, while the 30ppm stability covers the frequency deviation over temperature, giving a total worst-case deviation of ±60ppm. The 4-pad footprint improves performance by providing a low-inductance ground connection through pads 2 and 4, which are connected to the metal lid and serve as an electrostatic shield.
