The PIC16F690-I/SO from Microchip Technology is a versatile 8-bit flash microcontroller from the PIC16F family featuring 7 KB of program memory, 256 bytes of RAM, and 256 bytes of EEPROM. It integrates a rich set of peripherals including a 12-channel 10-bit ADC, two comparators, an EUSART with auto-baud detection, and an MSSP module supporting both SPI and I2C communication. The precision internal 8 MHz oscillator eliminates the need for external clock components. The device supports In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) and In-Circuit Debugging (ICD), enabling firmware development without removing the device from the target board.

The PIC16F690-I/SO uses the PIC16 enhanced RISC architecture with a 14-bit instruction word and 8-bit data paths. The CPU executes most instructions in a single cycle at 20 MHz (200 ns). The 7 KB flash memory stores the program, while 256 bytes of RAM serve as data storage and 256 bytes of EEPROM provide non-volatile data retention. The 10-bit ADC uses a successive approximation register (SAR) architecture with programmable acquisition time. The EUSART supports asynchronous serial communication with auto-baud detection, while the MSSP supports SPI (master/slave) and I2C (master/slave) protocols.
