The AX5302SA from Axelite is a step-up DC-DC converter with a 1.5 A internal N-channel MOSFET switch, operating from an input voltage as low as 0.8 V. The 500 kHz fixed switching frequency and internal compensation minimize external component count. The 0.6 V feedback reference voltage allows setting output voltages using a simple resistor divider. The device supports PWM/PFM mode switching for high efficiency across the entire load range. The SOT-23-6 package provides a compact solution for space-constrained portable and battery-powered applications including single-cell alkaline/NiMH to 3.3V or 5V boost conversion.

The AX5302SA uses a current-mode control boost converter topology. The internal N-channel MOSFET switch connects the inductor to ground during the on-time, causing inductor current to ramp up linearly. When the peak current reaches the level set by the error amplifier (or the 1.5 A current limit), the switch turns off and the inductor current flows through the external Schottky diode to the output capacitor and load. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage (from the external resistor divider) with the 0.6 V internal reference and adjusts the peak current threshold to regulate the output voltage. At light loads, the device enters PFM mode where switching pulses are spaced apart to reduce switching losses. The internal soft start limits inrush current during startup. The low 0.8 V minimum input voltage allows operation from a single discharged alkaline cell.
