The OMAPL138EZWTD4 is a low-power dual-core processor from Texas Instruments that combines an ARM926EJ-S general-purpose processor with a C674x floating-point DSP. This heterogeneous architecture enables designers to run an operating system (Linux, RTOS) on the ARM core while executing compute-intensive signal processing algorithms on the DSP core. With up to 3648 MIPS and 2746 MFLOPS of DSP performance, the device handles demanding real-time signal processing tasks including audio, video, and communications algorithms. The PRU subsystem adds deterministic I/O processing capability. Rich peripheral integration including USB 2.0 OTG, SATA, EMAC, and multiple serial interfaces reduces system BOM complexity.

The OMAPL138 operates with two independent processing cores connected through a Switched Central Resource (SCR) interconnect. The ARM926EJ-S core executes general-purpose code with a 16KB I-cache and 16KB D-cache, handling OS, networking, and user interface tasks. The C674x DSP core features 8 functional units (6 ALUs, 2 multipliers) capable of executing up to 8 instructions per cycle, with dedicated L1P (32KB) and L1D (32KB) caches plus 256KB of L2 SRAM. Both cores access peripherals and external memory through the SCR. The EDMA3 controller handles background data transfers without CPU intervention. The PRU subsystem provides two independent 32-bit RISC cores with deterministic cycle timing for real-time I/O control. Power management includes multiple clock domains and power domains for fine-grained power control.
