The DS18B20 from onsemi (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a 1-Wire digital temperature sensor providing 9-bit to 12-bit Celsius temperature measurements over a -55C to +125C range. It communicates over a single data line (1-Wire protocol) and supports multiple sensors on the same bus. Packaged in TO-92, waterproof probe, or SOIC-8.

The DS18B20 is a 1-Wire digital temperature sensor from onsemi that provides 9-bit to 12-bit Celsius temperature measurements. It communicates over a single data line using the Dallas 1-Wire protocol, enabling multiple sensors to share the same bus. Each device has a unique 64-bit serial code stored in on-board ROM, allowing individual addressing. The sensor operates from 3.0V to 5.5V and supports parasitic power mode where the device derives power from the data line, eliminating the need for a local supply. Over the -10C to +85C range, accuracy is +/-0.5C with 12-bit resolution providing 0.0625C increments.

The DS18B20 uses a bandgap temperature-sensing circuit whose output is digitized by a delta-sigma ADC. Temperature data is stored as a 16-bit two’s complement number in the scratchpad memory. The 1-Wire protocol uses a time-slot based signaling scheme where the master initiates communication with a reset pulse and the sensor responds with a presence pulse. Read and write operations use precise timing windows within each time slot. In parasitic power mode, the device charges an internal capacitor from the data line during high periods to power itself during low periods. The resolution is programmable from 9 bits (93.75ms conversion) to 12 bits (750ms conversion).
